Recycling should be the last step, not the first. Wherever possible we assess equipment for reuse before it is broken down: serviceable computers, monitors and other hardware can be refurbished and given a second life, which keeps usable equipment out of the waste stream and supports the sustainability and ESG targets many organisations now report against.
WEEE recycling also rarely happens in isolation. Redundant equipment is often identified during an IT relocation or as part of a wider office clearance, and equipment that needs to be held before disposal can be kept in secure furniture storage [LINK TBC – see Flag F5] until collection.
